The 15th century ceramics of Deruta, Umbria in Italy inspired this piece. While travelling in Italy I fell in love with these designs and colours, when I arrived home I just had to have a play with the idea. I have since painted many pieces in this style, this piece was painted for an exhibition in 2002.
The box is turned craftwood, I have painted the design in acrylics on a textured surface and then the piece was varnished, it measures 19cm x 9cm.
